TargetSolutions Platform Enhancement: Certificate Template Creation Tool

Certificate Template Tool Demo
The all-new Certificate of Completion Template tool enables TargetSolutions platform managers to create and attach their own custom certificates to activities.

Part of TargetSolutions’ ongoing efforts to improve user experience brings the latest platform release: The Certificate Template Creation Tool. This enhancement makes platform managers’ lives a little easier by streamlining the creation and attachment of custom certificates to activities. Rather than requesting certificates from a TargetSolutions account manager, users with Activities Builder permissions can create their own template in just a few steps.

To guide users through each part of the process, TargetSolutions platform experts put together easy-to-follow instructions in the Help System.

The step-by-step guide can be summarized in these five parts:

  1. Access the Activities Builder in the left navigation bar in the TargetSolutions platform.
  2. Create a new activity or select an existing activity to edit.
  3. In the activity, check the “attach custom certificate of completion” box.
  4. Customize options such as the certificate text, name, organization details, signature image, and logo.
  5. Select a start date and set an (optional) end date.

Custom Signature Certification ToolOnce a user has successfully added a new template, they’ll be able to select it from the certificate template drop-down menu.

When customizing a certificate, platform managers are also now able to add and save their own signatures for templates. They can either directly sign a signature box or upload a signature image. Once the corresponding information has been filled out and it’s been saved, the signature is then stored in the Signature Library for quick future access.

The new custom certification template tool in TargetSolutions give platform managers control of creating certificates of completion. To ensure a seamless experience, this helpful guide takes users through each step of the process.

TargetSolutions’ Annual Updates to RT-130 Series for 2018 Wildland Fire Refresher

Equipped with lessons from real events, TargetSolutions’ RT-130: Annual Wildland Fire Safety Refresher series has been recharged for 2018 with up-to-date statistics and relevant data.

In the face of a record-shattering 2017 wildland fire season, the threat of more devastating wildfires is very real as this year’s summer season approaches. Equipped with lessons from real events, TargetSolutions’ RT-130: Annual Wildland Fire Safety Refresher series has been revamped for 2018 with up-to-date statistics and relevant data.

Designed alongside fire service instructor and subject matter expert, Paul Costello, this refresher series will help prepare wildland firefighters for the grueling challenges ahead of preventing & containing fires, protecting lives and saving property.

“Megafires, or what might be termed a ‘hundred-year event,’ now occur with predictable frequency as the climate warms – establishing a new normal every year, as of late,” Costello explained. “Wildland firefighters, as directed by their respective agency, must refresh on their craft annually. In doing so, the prior year’s fire season is recapped, and the lessons learned are conveyed.”

This wildland fire refresher 2018 breaks down crucial wildland fire training into four two-hour modules. These video-driven courses provide learners with a self-paced learning experience with interactive quizzes to ensure comprehension.

Each module highlights key aspects of wildland fire response and includes new topics for 2018 such as:

  • LCES
  • Wind & Weather Warnings
  • Fuel Geysering
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems

To condense the content of TargetSolutions’ wildland fire refresher online training, each of these four modules have also been made into abbreviated, 10-30 minute microlearning lessons. Microlearning courses present essential information from the full-length series in “bite-sized” bundles. This allows personnel to quickly review new findings and lessons as needed.

“The big fires aren’t going away, nor is the rugged terrain, untenable environments, and arduous workload and hours. After a brief winter respite, the annual update is tantamount to pre-season training.”

Paul Costello, FF/EMT-P, Fire Service Instructor and Subject Matter Expert

Streamline Routine Apparatus and Equipment Inspections with TargetSolutions Check It™ Technology

Routine Apparatus Checks

TargetSolutions Check It™ operations management software simplifies apparatus inspections and tracks all equipment and inventory items needed in the field for first responders.

At the forefront of technological innovation for Fire and EMS agencies, TargetSolutions strives to improve processes and increase effectiveness for emergency responders. That’s what the TargetSolutions Check It™ application accomplishes.

This new operations management software documents, tracks, and reports routine apparatus and fire equipment inspections, while allowing departments to streamline checks with just a few clicks!

Using a mobile device, the TargetSolutions Check It™ application enables personnel to document the status of apparatus, complete in-depth equipment inspections, and communicate necessary actions. This software centralizes information by showing past check history, reminding staff of overdue or upcoming checks via push notifications and utilizing workflows to track service status of apparatus and equipment.

When creating checklists, departments won’t have to start from scratch. The new TargetSolutions operations management software contains a shared checklist library with real checklists used by other departments. Agencies will be able to simply import lists that relate to your apparatus and equipment and customize them according to your department’s needs.

Access to features is managed similarly to TargetSolutions’ powerful training and records management system. Administrators can assign roles based on personnel’s responsibilities and grant permission to add lists, create items or manage service tasks.

“TargetSolutions Check It helps departments ensure readiness, identify failed checks faster and increase overall efficiency,” said Senior Product Manager Misty Pratt. “Electronic apparatus checks improve transparency within a department and eliminate paper processes that can lead to inaccuracies and increased risk.”

TargetSolutions Check It™  operations management software simplifies apparatus inspections and tracks all equipment and inventory items first responders need in the field. Departments can oversee drug inventories and track expiration dates to assure proper usage; and ensure accurate chain-of-custody records.

Comprehensive lists of medical supplies, compartment tools, and drugs are organized by categories for snapshot views of supply levels.

When an apparatus fails a check or requires other routine maintenance, the application allows personnel to open service tickets and track associated costs. Through the built-in workflow, staff can check the status of trucks and equipment for repair and understand what services are being performed.

Reports in the TargetSolutions Check It™ operations management software provides a high-level overview of vehicles and tools with automatically generated graphs.

With visually-driven reports, officers can view the check steps each engine passes, measure units of engines such as mileage or hours of use and manage the drug log of controlled substances and common medicines.

TargetSolutions now offers the ultimate tool for maintaining checklists for a department’s apparatus and everything on it. Not only is this all-in-one tool for truck and fire equipment inspections accessible on your mobile device but it can also be launched from your TargetSolutions site.

All-New TargetSolutions Course: Effective Groundwater Supply Management

TargetSolutions is excited to announce an all-new course: Effective Groundwater Supply Management. This dynamic, video-driven course provides water industry professionals with up-to-date training they need to utilize and maintain groundwater sources.

Effective groundwater supply management is essential if groundwater resources are to remain viable for generations to come. Currently, groundwater volume exceeds the volume of fresh surface water by 20:1 and groundwater accounts for nearly half of the United States’ drinking water.

TargetSolutions’ all-new course from RedVector, Effective Groundwater Supply Management, provides water industry professionals with the up-to-date training they need to utilize and maintain groundwater sources without producing harmful effects.

This 1-hour course, produced by subject matter experts with extensive knowledge in the field, addresses current parameters and environmental concerns. Delivered in a video-driven format, a course narrator breaks down key topics into modules and guides learners through each lesson. These self-paced modules also offer engaging animations and images to better illustrate concepts and formulas.

By the end of this course, water industry personnel will be able to achieve the following objectives:

  • Identify the basics of groundwater management techniques
  • Describe the concept of safe groundwater yield
  • Compare & contrast the “safe yield concept” and the “sustainability concept”
  • Identify the environmental factors that determine groundwater withdrawal rates
  • Identify basic components of groundwater flow
  • Recognize basic groundwater flow equations
  • Identify types of aquifer material
  • Identify aquifer parameters such as porosity, yield, storage and hydraulic conductivity

As learners progress through these objectives, relevant in-course quizzes highlight important information and prepare learners for an end-of-course exam. After receiving a passing score, personnel will have completed the course and receive credit towards their water industry training.

“Groundwater management is quickly evolving. If these resources are going to remain sustainable, water industry professionals need to know the best practices for effective groundwater management. Presented in a video-based format with an instructor, this course covers topics ranging from the history of groundwater management to current conditions and environmental factors.” – Bryan Fitzgerald, Content Manager, TargetSolutions

TargetSolutions’ EMS Training Catalog Undergoes Major Boost

TargetSolutions is excited to release EMS HazMat Medical Emergencies Advanced. This all-new course features the latest innovations in online training and is accepted by CAPCE. In addition, TargetSolutions has enhanced three additional titles, including EMS Infectious Disease Control, EMS Understanding the Basics of ECGs, and EMS Operating an AED.

targetsolutions platform enhancementsFor EMS providers, executing the proper procedure, safely and effectively, makes all the difference in protecting patients and themselves. TargetSolutions’ comprehensive EMS continuing education catalog delivers more than 160 hours of accredited training for EMS personnel. As part of TargetSolutions’ efforts to provide a modern training experience, TargetSolutions released an all-new course, EMS HazMat Medical Emergencies Advanced, and updated three pre-existing courses.

EMS HazMat Medical Emergencies Advanced offers personnel a robust introduction to the complex management of HazMat medical emergency patients. This brand-new course serves as an ideal refresher for paramedics already training in this specialty.

HazMat Medical Emergencies Advanced, which has been accepted by all CAPCE states, as well as the state of Florida for continuing education, helps personnel review the necessary factors to providing proper care to patients, including pre-planning, thorough assessment, advanced instrumentation that detect background and patient diagnostic abnormalities and knowledge of the toxidromes and drug formulary.

While this course presents evidence-based information from national sources and standards, local medical control will be the final arbiter and the AHJ over drug administration, dosages, and clinical indications.

“HazMat response training is crucial to all first responders. With instructor-led, video-based content, this course details how to approach these potentially dangerous situations with safety and care. This training, as well as the other 3 updated courses, are critical for both those new to the profession and paramedics in need of refresher training.”

Bryan Fitzgerald, Content Manager, TargetSolutions

In addition, TargetSolutions has recently revised the following EMS course titles:

EMS Infectious Disease Control: Provides an overview of the risks and realities of infectious disease exposure incidents in the prehospital environment and reviews the requirements for complying with the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard.

EMS Understanding the Basics of ECGs: Introduces to the basics of electrical conduction in the heart, including the fundamentals of using an ECG machine and ECG tools, the normal sinus rhythm, ECG leads, and concepts related to the recognition of arrhythmias on the ECG.

EMS Operating an AED: Highlights the signs and symptoms of cardiac compromise, the steps to take to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) properly, special considerations and precautions involving the use of an AED.

The four courses were written by subject matter experts and include real, relevant information for first responders. Course narrators guide learners through each lesson and highlight key points that will be useful in the field. Audio-driven content is also reinforced with a dynamic interface featuring engaging images.

As users progress through each video-based module, they are able to fluidly navigate through the material with options to toggle the video player back-and-forth between lessons. Frequent in-course quizzes test for comprehension of the material and once they’ve completed the course, a 10-question exam will prove user’s retention of critical methods and systems.

TargetSolutions Updates Sexual Harassment Training to Comply with California’s Senate Bill 396

Sexual harassment not only causes a hostile work environment, but the United States Department of Labor estimates it costs organizations around $1 billion in damages each year.

In 2017, the state of California passed a new Senate Bill (SB 396), which requires organizations with 50 or more employees to provide training on harassment based on gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. This new law is an addition to AB 1825 that requires mandatory sexual harassment training for supervisors who work for companies with at least 50 employees.

As a result of SB 396, TargetSolutions updated its existing “Sexual Harassment Prevention for Supervisors (California’s AB 1825)” training course to ensure it contains the most recent changes. TargetSolutions’ two-hour course offers detailed lessons, engaging interactions, and real-life scenarios to educate personnel, achieve compliance, and create safer work environments.

As the new law requires, the updated content covers gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. The updated videos can be found in lesson 4 of TargetSolutions’ AB 1825 course.

Why Computer-Based Training Systems Make Sense for Fire Departments of All Sizes

No matter the department size, all fire departments are faced with hundreds of hours of mandated training that simply cannot be managed solely with traditional training and recordkeeping methods. Implementing a web-based Learning Management System (LMS) improves a department’s ability to deliver, track and report all training types.

Metro Fire Department Online Training

TargetSolutions is at the forefront of online training for fire departments and offers a cost-effective, powerful solution for departments ranging from metro-sized fire departments to smaller volunteer agencies.

TargetSolutions fulfills the basic training needs of all fire departments with a robust course library of more than 450 hours of firefighter training and 160 hours of accredited EMS continuing education. However, as each department has unique challenges, TargetSolutions includes user-friendly, innovative applications for a customizable training experience that is specific to the needs of personnel.

Find out why TargetSolutions is the right choice for every fire department:

Metro Fire Departments

Strictly classroom training and paper recordkeeping don’t cut it when it comes to managing training and compliance for the hundreds of members in a metro fire department. Incorporating TargetSolutions into a large agency, such as Cal Fire San Diego, centralizes information, standardizes content and simplifies delivery to ensure personnel are understanding their training and meeting annual requirements.

As members complete drill-yard training, platform managers can run comprehensive reports and have confidence they are staying ahead of upcoming certification deadlines.

In addition to streamlining the delivery and tracking of training, TargetSolutions also offers pre-built and customizable credentials that package together training for licenses, EMS continuing education, ISO compliance and more.

Credentials provide convenience to all members of a metro fire department. Personnel have a single location to access courses, task books and forms for logging drill-yard hours. TargetSolutions platform managers have an overview of users for certification tracking.

Mid-Sized Fire Departments

Although online training offers many benefits to fire departments, not all LMSs are the same. With TargetSolutions, fire departments are choosing Software as a Service (SaaS) that not only features powerful recordkeeping and dynamic online courses but world-class customer services. Agencies can expect implementation support from dedicated professionals.

TargetSolutions’ eLearning content is constantly updated to meet changing standards and engage firefighters. TargetSolutions’ firefighter course catalog includes:

  • EMS Recertification (accepted nationwide)
  • NFPA 1001, NFPA 1021 Company Officer, NFPA 1410, NFPA 1500
  • Wildland fire training, EVO, OSHA, harassment prevention, etc.
  • Scenario-based training through AlphaACT FIRE

TargetSolutions also makes it easy for departments to create and deliver their own training content. such as videos, documents, SCORM courses and more. In just a few clicks, platform managers can build activities, which are electronic forms for tracking training and compliance, or credentials, which are customizable bundles of training courses and activities packaged together, with videos, documents, SCORM courses and more! Enterprise functionalities allows fire departments to share their content and digitally exchange resources with other agencies within TargetSolutions.

Volunteer Fire Departments

Online training offers affordable solutions for volunteer and combination fire departments. TargetSolutions allows personnel to train 24/7, wherever, whenever. With TargetSolutions’ courses and customizable activities, departments don’t have to take members out of service just to renew a certification. Cutting back the need for classroom time saves departments money on overtime for personnel, fuel costs and training instructors.

In addition to providing flexibility, TargetSolutions also enables volunteer departments to maximize hands-on training with online, pre-training content. Completing pre-training courses or activities before drill-yard exercises builds a foundation for critical procedures and optimizes time during off-site training.

With the fast-changing nature of the fire service industry, integrating online solutions into firefighter training programs is the key to staying ahead. Fire departments and cities across the country are adopting eLearning and rely on TargetSolutions’ industry-leading LMS to manage all aspects of their agency’s training.

ISO Updates Require Simple Adjustments to Your ISO Credential in TargetSolutions

By making these simple updates to your ISO credential, your department will be current with changing ISO requirements and ready for its next training review.

Is your department using TargetSolutions to track ISO training hours? Updates in ISO training criteria and new courses in the TargetSolutions’ platform require simple adjustments to your department’s ISO credential. These easy updates will help your team prepare for its next ISO audit.

The most recent ISO credential updates include:

  • Daily SCBA / PPE Checks Removal from ISO
  • Updated Community Risk Reduction Training Qualifications (Inspector, Investigator, Life Safety Educator)
  • Addition of New Courses from RedVector
  • Inclusion of New NFPA and RT-130 Content from 2017
  • Organization of LearnSmart Courses (should not be used in ISO credential)

Daily SCBA/PPE Checks Removal

As Daily Apparatus Checks were removed from ISO training standards in 2013, daily SCBA and PPE checks no longer count toward ISO training. While these routine checks are critical to the safety and effectiveness of fire departments, they do not qualify as a training activity. These checks should be removed from your ISO credential to keep your mandatory training bundles organized.

Updated Community Risk Reduction Training Qualifications

When tracking training for Community Risk Reduction Training requirements (Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator and Fire Life Safety Educator), it’s important to note that a course or activity cannot count toward more than one qualification. “Double dipping” is not be accepted by the ISO when analyzing your department’s training hours. Therefore, to ensure your personnel are fulfilling the appropriate number of hours for their certifications, make sure to organize your “buckets” in the ISO credential.

Addition of New RedVector Courses

TargetSolutions received 34 new courses from RedVector, which like TargetSolutions is a brand under Vector Solutions. These courses provide a refreshing training experience with online lessons new to your department’s personnel. Incorporating new courses into your ISO credential keeps annual training from becoming routine and monotonous. To add these courses, simply tag them according to the appropriate category and add them to your credential in Manage Credentials.

Inclusion of 2017 NFPA Content and RT-130 Wildland Refresher Training

In 2017, TargetSolutions added a new video-driven training series to highlight key learning objectives for fire departments. These courses written to NFPA standards include the NFPA 1410 series, which received silver honors for the Brandon Hall Group Excellence in Learning Award. While your company may have already completed these courses, it’s important to add and sort them into your ISO credential “buckets” to receive ISO training credit.

Organization of LearnSmart Courses

While TargetSolutions’ courses for IT & Security, Business Skills and Office Productivity certainly deliver value to your administration team, they do not count toward ISO training. To keep your ISO credential as simple as possible, refrain from adding LearnSmart courses to company officer buckets and remove any existing courses. Rather than cluttering your ISO credential, perhaps create a separate credential with LearnSmart content for career pathing purposes.

For more information on TargetSolutions’ ISO Training Tracker, please check our online help system.
